The 10th Annual Medical Education Day on April 25, 2024 showcased 22 projects related to innovations in medical education. The event was held in the Brody Auditorium and Brody Commons. This event provided BSOM faculty, staff, students, post-docs and residents the opportunity to present medical education innovations in curriculum, teaching, educational research and leadership to educators, leaders, scholars, and learners.

The featured keynote speaker was Brody Alumnus, Dr. Andrew Southerland, MD, MSc, FAHA, FAAN, Harrison Distinguished Teaching Professor of Neurology, Executive Vice Chair, Department of Neurology, University of Virginia Health/UVA Stroke Center presented “Teaching Clinical Diagnostic Reasoning in the Age of AI – Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto.” Click here to view his speech.

Jacob Richardson, M2 and Alissa Davis, M2 won the “Shark with the Biggest” award for their presentation “Utilization of Artificial Intelligence Image Generation Tools to Augment Mnemonics for Medical Students: Proof of Concept.” The “Shark Tank: Body Bites Edition” session featured presentations from works in progress submissions. Six presenters pitched their ideas and received feedback from judges.

Alexandra Doherty, M4, won the “Outstanding Podium Presentation” award for her presentation “A Delphi Consensus Study for the Development of a Specialty-Focused Ultrasound Curriculum for Fourth-Year Medical Students.”

The first-place poster award went to K. Ryan Dickerson, M4, MET Scholar, for his project “Near-Peer Created Full Length Practice Laboratory Practicals in Gross Anatomy and Embryology: An Effective Method of Learning in the Anatomical Sciences.”

The second-place poster award went Arden Vessie, M4 for her project “Peer-Led Medical Spanish Education: Effects on Interprofessional Student Functional Language Self-Efficacy.”

The third-place poster award went to Michael Kovasala, M1 and Taylor A. Creech, M1 for their project “Interprofessional Near-Peer-Created Resources in Gross Anatomy: Medical Student Support and Perceived Impact on Emotional Well-Being.”
