Things to know prior to submission

What types of submissions are accepted?

There are three categories of presentation, each with its own distinct length and format of delivery:

Podium Presentation

Educational research must include complete or preliminary results that demonstrate the effectiveness of an educational intervention. The presentation is 12 minutes, and is followed by 3 minutes of Q & A.

Poster Presentation

Innovations include new or novel ideas, including programs, projects, or other unique educational experience far enough along in the developmental cycle to provide valuable lessons and insight worth sharing with the broader health professions community. OFALD will coordinate the printing of posters and will pay associate fees. OFALD will also arrange for the display of the posters. Poster Presentation judges will be provided with electronic copies of the posters in advance but will postpone any scoring until seeing the presenter(s) with the poster on Medical Education Day.

Work in Progress

Projects, programs, or interventions early in the developmental stages. Abstracts selected as a “Work in Progress” will be presented during a “Shark Tank” style session during which the educational project will be presented to an audience of peers and educational experts for immediate questions and feedback. The presentation will be 5 minutes followed by 5 minutes of questions and feedback.

Note

The Medical Education Day Planning Committee reserves the prerogative to accept a presentation for a category other than the one for which it was submitted.

The submission process

A Call for Abstracts is sent out broadly by email, and flyers are posted on Brody bulletin boards and media screens. Emails will include a link to the online submission form, and flyers will include a QR code. Completing the form provides everything necessary for submission. Check the form early to see what is required.

Decision-making and review

How are submissions selected for inclusion in Medical Education Day?

The Medical Education Day Planning Committee reviews every submission.

The Medical Education Day Planning Committee considers multiple factors when reviewing submissions, including the work fits within the scope of medical education.

All Corresponding Authors will received communication regarding the status of their submission.

Post Acceptance

What happens after my abstract is declined or accepted?

The Corresponding Author will receive an email notification regarding whether the submission was accepted. The Corresponding Authors for accepted submissions will receive further instructions regarding the preparation of PowerPoint slides and Posters for Medical Education Day. Submission in advance is necessary for OFALD to coordinate audiovisual needs, printing of posters, etc. Accordingly, deadlines will be communicated at the time the work is accepted.

The blank scoring rubric to be used by judges will be provided to the Corresponding Author with the notification that the abstract is accepted. Judges will view submitted materials in advance of Medical Education Day but will not assign scores until after seeing the work presented at the event.
