Dr. Shawn Moore began his educational journey at ECU in 1996 when he participated in Brody School of Medicine Pediatric Infectious Disease research work focused on respiratory virus identification in pre-mature newborns. This interest led him to graduate work that focused on Allergy and Immunology, and he gained an appreciation for the interaction of science and healthcare.

After nine years of teaching biology, Dr. Moore returned to ECU as the Director of the Center for STEM Education where he supports the regional STEM enterprise by leading STEM outreach programs, providing STEM services, and conducting research that has a particular focus on under-representation in STEM & Medicine.

Some of Dr. Moore’s work with BSOM include exam preparation support for M1-M4 students and participation in scholarship efforts.

Dr. Moore loves spending time with his wife and daughter, especially at game night. He enjoys reading leadership and innovation books, and he most recently discovered landscape acrylic and oil painting as a hobby.
