Asian Pacific Medical Students Association at Brody School of Medicine
MISSION
This Organization shall be guided by the following general principles:
– To promote the dissemination of information relative to Asian Pacific American issues in the field of medical education.
– To explore and possibly resolve the unique challenges, obstacles, and responsibilities specific to Asian Pacific American medical students and physicians.
– To provide opportunities for Asian Pacific American medical students to give back to their community(i.e.) through service.

Brody Ambassador
MISSION
The mission of the Brody Ambassador Mentorship Program is to foster collaboration and professional development between undergraduate students in AMSA/MAPS at East Carolina University and students at the Brody School of Medicine. Through mentorship and engaging activities, our program aims to equip undergraduate students with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their chances of admission to medical school.

MISSION
CMDA educates, encourages, and equips Christian healthcare professionals to glorify God. MISSION
The mission of DIG as a student-run, non-profit organization is to:
– Provide a forum for communication between students and professionals in Dermatology
– Create a network of collaboration between DIGs nationwide.

– To provide a support group for students considering a career in dermatology.

Greenville Community Shelter Clinic Corporation’s purpose is to develop and implement medical care for the residents of the Community Crossroads Center.

Happy Hearts: BSOM/VMC Community CPR Program
MISSION
To teach infant and child CPR + Choking rescue to members of Pitt and surrounding counties to help address infant mortality. We hope we can not only help parents learn this skill, but help other healthcare students to learn and be ambassadors for CPR in the community. Anyone interested in learning this CPR and teaching can attend a class as a shadower where they can take the class with one of our instructors and see how the class functions.

I Am First
MISSION
I Am First is a student-mentorship organization that is primarily focused on filling in any gaps in knowledge, resources, and support for first generation medical students at the Brody School of Medicine. This organization works by pairing students to physician-volunteers, or interested faculty, and producing a strong mentor-mentee relationship throughout their time at Brody.

Interdisciplinary Oral Medicine Study Club at ECU
MISSION
The purpose of this organization is to integrate medicine and dentistry in order to promote optimal health in the patients we see by increasing professional and public awareness of the field of Oral Medicine and by educating health professional students on advances, patient care, and research in Oral Medicine. The organization will seek out opportunities and activities including, but not limited to, observations of various postgraduate programs (primarily in hospital settings), case presentations and discussions, participating in research activities, attending professional conferences, and guest speakers.

MISSION
The Med/Peds Interest Group is an informal organization that enables interested medical students to learn about primary care career opportunities in the combined field of Internal Medicine/Pediatrics. Students interested in med/peds residency often use this as an opportunity to network with like-minded students, med/peds residents and med/peds training physicians. The agenda for this group has included not only increasing interest in med/peds training but even more specifically discussing career opportunities and specifics about various residency training programs.

The purpose of this organization is to “educate and create tomorrow’s abortion providers and pro-choice physicians.”

MedPals
MISSION
The purpose of this organization is five-fold:
1. Provide mentorship and tutoring for underserved K-12 youth in our community
2. Provide guidance in terms of college deadlines and college applications to increase college enrollment.
3. As future physicians, infiltrate communities and teach/lead seminar topics about current health issues to the Pitt County community.
4. Provide teachers with certain healthcare-related skills that are applicable and beneficial to the needs of the populations in Pitt County.
5. Instill interest and awareness of healthcare fields to youth, with an emphasis on the youth of eastern North Carolina.

MISSION
The Obstetrics and Gynecology Interest Group is an affiliate organization of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, which aids its members in the understanding of the multidimensional health care system, especially at the primary care level. The ECU group emphasizes community service and participation in projects such as community health fairs. Students are active at the state and national level in obstetrics and gynecology.

Students Collaborative Resources for Understanding and Brody Success
MISSION
SCRUBS is a student-driven initiative that aims to develop supplemental resources for current and future cohorts of medical learners that will pass through the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and other Health Science Programs. Members of SCRUBS participate in a variety of sub-committees working to create resources for students, by students. These resources aim to offer unique perspectives from students who have walked in the same shoes, developing resources that we wish we had been exposed to during our time in these courses. The hope is this organization will become a staple of the Brody student body, exemplifying the unique collaborative community that Brody offers.

Students Interested in Pathology

The East Carolina University (ECU) Brody School of Medicine Students Interested in Pathology (SIP) is a student interest group that welcomes medical, undergraduate, and graduate students who attend East Carolina University and are interested in learning more about pathology in general and about careers in Pathology specifically. The Brody SIP group has been in existence since 2006. During each academic year, SIP has approximately 25-40 active members.

Typecast
MISSION
Type.cast is a literary magazine sponsored by the Department of Bioethics and Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS). Submissions are open to all students and faculty within the health sciences. While the ultimate responsibility of the publication resides with the Department of Bioethics and Interdisciplinary Studies, Type.cast is managed by the faculty editor with assistance of an editorial board comprised of students from the BSOM.
