Professional & Leadership Development
Through its curriculum offerings, Brody prepares graduate students and medical students to be scholars and physicians who can make critical contributions in the biomedical sciences as well as on patients, teams, organizations, and systems in eastern North Carolina and beyond. In addition to professional and leadership opportunities within Brody, learners can also build professional and leadership skills by becoming involved in the following OSSaW-supported initiatives:
- Peer Tutoring & Peer Coaching
- Step Up to Brody program for incoming medical students
- Graduate student & Pre-medical student recruitment and outreach
Other services we provide to assist learners with reaching professional and leadership goals include:

- Leadership assessments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the EQ-I 2.0 that help to identify leadership style, strengths and areas for growth as well as leadership emotional intelligence.
- Individual coaching to strengthen communication and other interpersonal skills
- Assistance with decision-making related to career planning and decision-making, medical specialty choice, residency planning, or work-life balance.
- Mentoring support for learners selected as N.C. Albert Schweitzer Fellows or those engaged in other service-learning, or research-based experiences.
