The Brody Women Faculty Advocacy Award recognizes individuals who have best demonstrated leadership in promoting, encouraging, or implementing policies to facilitate the professional development of faculty, staff, trainees and/or students who identify as women.

Brody Women Faculty Advocacy Award
Eligibility
A nominee is required to have met several of the eligibility criteria below or to have made an outstanding contribution in one important area.
The nominee has…
- made a sustained contribution on behalf of women
- provided leadership in advocating for women
- actively mentored women faculty, staff, trainees and/or students
- contributed substantially to the professional advancement of women faculty at BSOM
- advanced the cause of women faculty in terms of hiring, retention, or promotion
- been an advocate for policies that foster gender equity and opportunities for women faculty
- been an advocate for the welfare of women faculty, staff, trainees and/or students
- forged relationships with other campus organizations, faculty and/or administrators, to encourage attention to the issues of academic women
- become a campus spokesperson for gender equity and advancement issues
- promoted or implemented interdepartmental and interdisciplinary networking and synergy.
Award Frequency and Timing
The Brody Women Faculty Advocacy Award may be given each year.
The award will be announced at the spring Brody Full Faculty Meeting (normally in April).
The Nomination Process:
- The candidate or the person making the nomination should supply the following information:
- a completed application form o a brief biographical sketch or current resume/curriculum vitae,
- a description of how the nominee meets the Award criteria, with supporting documents
- letter(s) of recommendation/support from peer and/or student
- All candidates will be notified that they have been nominated. If they choose, they may submit additional materials as part of their application for the award.
- The award may be made to an individual or may be shared between two individuals who have cooperated in their efforts.
- Current Brody Women Faculty Committee leadership are not eligible to be nominated.
- Please email completed nominations to the current chair Dr. Karen Litwa litwak16@ecu.edu no later than Monday March 18, 2024, at 10am EST.
The Application Review and Selection Process:
- All of the application materials and information will be shared with members of the BWFC Award Selection Committee to review in March. The selection committee will consist of BWFC leadership.
- All nominees shall be notified by a member of the Award committee about the status of their application
The Brody Women Faculty Advocacy Award consists of:
- Symbol of Recognition
- Publication of information in an official ECU Publication
- Plaque with running tally of awardees
