Vision
VCDI strives to make Brody School of Medicine a global leader in diversity and inclusion as well as innovators in improving the climate of academic medicine. We will work to promote diversity and inclusion at the department level, with a focus on research, education, programming, and data-driven outcomes.We will champion improvements in the department’s diversity climate and the recruitment/retention of talent from diverse backgrounds
Mission
The mission of the VCDI is to foster inclusion and belonging, improve opportunities for multicultural learning, and inspire change in each department at the Brody School of Medicine. VCDI serves as the faculty arm of the Office of Diversity Affairs (ODA) and acts as an advisory body to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. VCDI serves as a vehicle for considering policy, practices, and issues of any kind related to, but not limited to, matters of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and other diversity matters.
The objectives used to meet the Vice Chairs of Diversity and Inclusion goals will be guided by the current BSOM strategic plan (PDF).

Goals
Vice Chairs of Diversity and Inclusion will:

  • Enhance inclusion efforts within each department at BSOM with a specific focus on student recruitment/retention, faculty recruitment/retention, campus climate, and outreach.
  • Improve the quality of work and learning environments within each department at BSOM by promoting the integration of diversity awareness and humility into every aspect of the BSOM environment
  • At the departmental level, establish cultural humility and inclusion as standards set forth by senior-level leadership and modeled by all faculty, staff, and students
