Medical Education Day celebrates scholarship and innovation in medical education and offers an excellent opportunity to join a community of educators, leaders, scholars, and learners to promote exciting changes in medical education. Podium, poster, and Shark Tank presentations will provide the opportunity to learn more about ongoing educational activities at the Brody School of Medicine.

Program Objectives

  1. Provide a forum for sharing educational innovations in curriculum and teaching, educational research, and leadership in medical education.
  2. Enhance knowledge and understanding of new approaches in medical education across the US.
  3. Build a network of faculty, staff and students interested in promoting educational excellence.

The 11th Annual Medical Education Day, held May 1, 2025, showcased 15 projects related to innovations in medical education. The event was held in the Brody Auditorium. This event provided BSOM faculty, staff, students, post-docs and residents the opportunity to present medical education innovations in curriculum, teaching, educational research and leadership to educators, leaders, scholars, and learners.

The featured keynote speaker was Brody Alumna, Dr. Christina Marie Peroutka, MD. Dr. Peroutka is a board-certified physician in pediatrics, clinical, general and medical biochemical genetics who specializes in helping infants, children and adults with genetic conditions. She has a particular interest and expertise in inborn errors of metabolism and newborn screening. Her presentation, Follow the Green Lights – How Focusing on Positive Experiences can Shape your Career and Lead to Big Opportunities, provided key insights for students making decisions about their careers. Maria Kalogeromitros, M2, Esha Thakkar, PharmD, M2, and Lachlan Younce, M2 won the Outstanding Podium Presentation Award for their presentation “Pulse of Medicine: A Pre-Med Immersion Experience – A Pathway to Innovation in Medical Education for Undergraduate Students.”

The First Place Poster Award went to Sheena M. Eagan, MPH, PhD, for her project,  “Navigating the Healthcare Landscape: A Health Systems Science Approach at Brody School of Medicine.”

The Second Place Poster Award went Hugh Lee, JD, for his project, “Designing an Integrated Continuous Quality Improvement Model for the Medical School Setting.”

The Third Place Poster Award went to Hunter J. Geneau, M2, for his project “Fostering Student Active Engagement and Memory Consolidation: Small Group Review Sessions in the Pre-Clinical Pathology Curriculum.”

Joanna Mathew won the Shark with the Biggest Bite Award for her presentation, “The Future of Medical Education? Educators’ Views on the Feasibility of 3D Printing.” There were five presenters competing for distinction in this category. The presenters pitched their ideas and received feedback from judges.
