Early Assurance Program

An Early Assurance (EA) program is a restricted program where pre-screened applicants are accepted while they are undergraduate students (typically during the first or second year), prior to their medical school entering class year. The Brody School of Medicine has Early Assurance partnerships with East Carolina University’s Honors College, UNC Pembroke, and North Carolina A&T State University.

Students who accept a position in the Early Assurance program must maintain certain academic standards and participate in various activities to remain eligible for their guaranteed seats in the entering class.

These requirements include:

  • Academic Minimum Requirements
    • Maintain 3.5 average undergrad GPA /3.5 average undergrad science GPA. No post-baccalaureate work will count towards average GPA. (AP credit will not meet Pre-requisite requirements)
    • 500 MCAT or current standard MCAT for Regular Admissions for the year the student applies to EA
      • Completing all pre-requisite requirements by the end of the third year (This can be found on the admissions website under Admission Requirements).
      • Participating in required group and enrichment activities during your undergraduate year (medical exposure, service learning, leadership roles, periodic participation in EA BSOM activities, etc.)
      • Maintaining “an acceptable level of personal deportment”

Early Assurance scholars who remain eligible and interested will complete application materials to the BSOM at ECU via the American Medical College Application Service through the Early Decision admissions process and will be exempt from the secondary application fee.
